Movement

Automatic/Self Winding Automatic

Automatic or Self Winding Automatic watch does not need battery. The mechanism winds itself by the motion of the watch wearer’s arm. Most automatic watches have up to 36 hours of power reserve. If an automatic watch is not worn for a day or two, it will wind down and need to be wound by hand to get it started again. Most mechanical watches sold today are self-winding.

Manual Winding

The watch must be wound by turning the crown back and forth until resistance is met -usually every 24 hours.

Hybrid Electro-Mechanical

A watch utilizes hybrid power to drive a movement. The hybrid power supply functioning as an auxiliary unit to deliver power to an electro-magnetically driving unit through an automatic control unit manipulated by a mechanical energy storage status detection unit to produce mechanical energy in time to prevent the movement from stopping; a main spring barrel or a potential difference weight of the kinetic energy storage unit being driven to further drive a wheel chain of the timing device and automatically suspend driving upon the completion of winding the wheel train.

Quartz/Swiss Quartz

A watch with a quartz movement uses a tiny sliver of the mineral quartz which vibrates at a precise frequency when electricity is passed across it. This device is called a crystal oscillator. This type of watch is a watch powered by a "quartz crystal" mechanism. Most affordable watches today have Quartz movements. Quartz watches are mostly battery operated.
